Mary Aiken

Mary Aiken is best known as one of the world’s leading experts in cyberpsychology—the study of how technology impacts and shapes human behaviour. As a globally sought-after speaker, she translates complex behavioural science into powerful insights for governments, industry leaders and organisations navigating digital transformation, cybersecurity and online safety. Her work has influenced policy at the highest levels and continues to shape global conversations on the intersection of humans and technology.

Mary’s early career began in the private sector, where she served as Senior Vice President at Equity Marketing Inc. before becoming Director of Aiken Innovation R&D. Her interest in human–technology interaction deepened when she co-led a White House research project as part of the Obama Administration’s “Tech Vs Human Trafficking” initiative. This experience helped propel her toward academia and specialist research, culminating in her appointment as Director of the CyberPsychology Research Centre at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Over the years, Mary has accumulated an impressive list of achievements across cybercrime research, public policy, and academia. She has served as Academic Advisor to the European Cyber Crime Centre at Europol, Professor of Forensic Cyberpsychology at the University of East London, and Chief Scientist of Safety Tech for the Paladin Capital Group. Mary has been inducted into the Infosecurity Europe Hall of Fame, named one of Europe’s Top 50 Most Inspiring Women in Technology, recognised twice as one of the Top 50 Women in GovTech in the Asia Pacific region, and listed as one of the Top 100 Women in STEM. She has also been awarded Freedom of the City of Dublin. Her bestselling book The Cyber Effect has earned global acclaim, with her research featured in leading media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The New York Times, and The Sunday Times.

Today, Mary continues to influence global policy and research. She currently serves as Co-Lead on a €5 million EU Horizon research project at UEL, examining human and technical drivers of cybercrime. She also collaborates with the UK Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport on major initiatives, including the Online Safety Data Initiative. Her work remains at the forefront of understanding and addressing emerging cyber-behavioural threats in an increasingly digital world.
