Patrick Baudry

Patrick Baudry is a pioneering astronaut, former CNES astronaut and retired Lieutenant Colonel in the French Air Force, recognised as one of Europe’s most accomplished figures in space exploration. As a keynote speaker, Patrick draws on a career defined by precision, risk, and discovery. He is best known for becoming the second French citizen to travel into space during NASA’s STS-51-G mission, a landmark achievement that cemented his place in aerospace history and continues to shape his inspiring talks today.

Patrick’s early career was built on discipline and technical excellence. Educated at the Prytanée National Militaire and the École de l’Air, he earned his pilot wings in 1970 and quickly progressed as a fighter pilot with Fighter Squadron 1/11 ‘Roussillon’. Flying aircraft such as the F100 and Jaguar, he completed operational missions across Africa, developing resilience and decision-making under pressure. His capabilities led him to the prestigious Empire Test Pilots’ School in the UK, where he was awarded the Patuxent Trophy, recognising his outstanding performance. Over time, Patrick accumulated more than 4,000 flying hours and experience across over 100 aircraft types, establishing himself as a leading authority in aviation.

In 1980, Patrick’s career took a defining turn when he was selected as a CNES astronaut candidate from a pool of over 2,000 applicants. Following rigorous training in France and at Star City near Moscow, he joined NASA’s Johnson Space Center, preparing for spaceflight. His role as a payload specialist on the STS-51-G Space Shuttle mission saw him travel 2.5 million miles in 112 Earth orbits, contributing to satellite deployment and scientific research. After his mission, Patrick held influential roles including Advisor to the Chairman of Aerospatiale, test pilot for the Hermes spaceplane, and later senior test pilot and advisor at Airbus and EADS. He also founded the European Space Training Centre in Cannes, demonstrating his commitment to advancing human spaceflight and preparing future astronauts.

Today, Patrick Baudry is in demand as a keynote speaker for organisations seeking insight into leadership, innovation, and performance in high-pressure environments. His talks cover space exploration, teamwork, communication, and risk management, all grounded in real-world experience at the highest level. Patrick brings a rare perspective, shaped by both aviation and space, offering audiences practical lessons on resilience and decision-making. His ability to translate extraordinary experiences into relevant business insights makes him a compelling choice for conferences, leadership events, and corporate audiences aiming to push boundaries and think differently.
