Casey Stoney

Casey Stoney is a former England captain, elite football coach and one of the most influential figures in women’s football. With more than 130 caps for England, she represented her country at major international tournaments including the FIFA Women’s World Cup and UEFA Women’s European Championship. As captain of Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games, she led her side to a historic bronze medal. Since transitioning into coaching, Casey has continued her success, becoming a title-winning manager and an internationally recognised leader in the women’s game.

Casey began her professional playing career in the early 2000s, making her debut for England in 2000. After retiring from playing, Casey moved into coaching and made history as the first head coach of Manchester United Women in 2018. She led the club to immediate success, winning the FA Women’s Championship in 2019 and securing promotion to the Women’s Super League. Her leadership and impact were widely recognised, earning her multiple LMA Women’s Championship Manager of the Month awards.

Casey’s coaching career continued to progress on the international stage when she became the inaugural head coach of San Diego Wave FC in 2021. She led the team to the NWSL Shield in 2023, establishing them as one of the top teams in the league. In 2025, she was appointed Head Coach of the Canada Women’s National Team, marking a major milestone in her career. Casey was awarded an MBE in 2015 for services to football and has also been recognised for her influence as a role model and advocate for inclusion within sport.
