David Roberts

David Roberts CBE is a Welsh Paralympic swimmer and one of Great Britain’s most successful Paralympians, winning 11 Paralympic gold medals across three Games and equalling the national record for most Paralympic titles. His story is one of extraordinary achievement from early adversity to elite sporting success, and he now inspires audiences worldwide with his insights on resilience, performance and mindset.

David was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age 11 but quickly turned swimming into both therapy and triumph, representing Wales by age 13 and winning all four races at his first major international at the 1999 European Disabled Swimming Championships. His first Paralympic Games were in Sydney 2000, where he won seven medals, including golds. He continued his medal dominance at Athens 2004 with four golds and again at Beijing 2008 with another four golds, contributing to a relay world record and carrying the British flag at the closing ceremony.

His sporting success was recognised with an MBE in the 2005 New Year Honours and later upgraded to CBE in 2009, reflecting his services to disabled sport. David’s career also included medals at IPC World Championships and Commonwealth Games, and his multiple world records in S7 freestyle events solidify his legacy in elite swimming.

Since retiring from international competition, David has become a sought-after speaker and mentor. He shares the mindset principles that drove his success, emphasising peak performance, overcoming setback and the power of self-belief. His experiences resonate widely, from business audiences to sporting organisations and community groups.

David is hired for his unmatched track record of elite performance, peak pressure delivery and resilience in the face of physical challenge. His journey from therapeutic swimming to Paralympic champion equips him with authentic, hard-earned insight into determination, goal-setting and psychological strength. These qualities resonate powerfully across corporate, sporting and educational environments.

As a former national flag bearer and record-breaking athlete, David combines humility, humour and authority in his delivery.
