Richard Davies

Richard Davies is a former Royal Air Force veteran and para athlete recognised for his achievements in elite sport and his ability to overcome significant physical adversity. He served in the RAF for fourteen years as a Ground Support Engineer, progressing to the rank of Corporal. In 2019, he suffered a serious injury that led to multiple surgeries and, ultimately, the amputation of his right leg below the knee in 2021.

During rehabilitation, Richard turned to competitive para sport as part of his recovery. He trained across multiple disciplines, including swimming, archery and indoor rowing, building strength and performance through structured programmes. His commitment led him to selection for the Invictus Games, where he represented Team UK with distinction.

Richard achieved major international success at the 2023 Invictus Games, winning four gold medals in swimming. In 2024, he and his team set a world record for the fastest amputee team to complete the Half Snowman Trek in Bhutan. He later co-authored the Start Over book series in 2025, documenting his journey and providing actionable guidance on resilience, identity and performance after injury.
