Kurt Volker

Kurt Volker is a globally recognised foreign policy keynote speaker and senior international affairs authority, best known for his service as U.S. Ambassador to NATO and U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations. With more than three decades of experience spanning diplomacy, security and international leadership, Kurt speaks with rare credibility on geopolitics, NATO, transatlantic relations and leadership in times of uncertainty. His most notable achievement remains representing the United States at NATO during a period of heightened tension with Russia, where he played a central role in alliance strategy, defence coordination and international diplomacy at the highest level.

Kurt’s journey began with a strong academic foundation, earning a BA in International Affairs from Temple University before completing an MA in International Relations at The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs. He started his career as a CIA analyst, gaining early exposure to intelligence and global security, before joining the U.S. Foreign Service in 1988. His formative diplomatic postings took him to London, Brussels and Budapest, providing first-hand experience of European politics during a period of rapid change. A pivotal moment came when he served as Special Assistant to Richard Holbrooke during the Bosnia peace negotiations, followed by his role as a Legislative Fellow for Senator John McCain, experiences that shaped his long-standing focus on principled leadership and democratic values.

Rising steadily through senior government, Kurt was appointed Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, overseeing NATO relations, European strategy and a $400 million budget across 78 overseas posts. In 2008, he became U.S. Ambassador to NATO, where he was deeply involved in responding to Russia’s invasion of Georgia, managing NATO enlargement, supporting operations in Afghanistan and marking the alliance’s 60th anniversary. Later, as U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations, Kurt became the most senior U.S. envoy dedicated to countering Russia’s occupation of Ukrainian territory and strengthening Western support for Ukraine. Alongside public service, he served as Executive Director of the McCain Institute for International Leadership, shaping the next generation of global leaders through education, human rights and national security initiatives.

Today, Kurt is President of Alliance Strategic Advisors, a Distinguished Fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis, and a Senior International Advisor at BGR Group, advising governments and organisations on geopolitical risk and international strategy. Organisations hire Kurt because he offers calm, measured insight grounded in real-world decision-making. His keynote topics include global security, NATO, Ukraine and Russia, leadership under pressure and navigating geopolitical uncertainty, subjects that are increasingly critical for business leaders and institutions operating in a volatile world. Kurt’s depth of experience, clear communication style and authoritative perspective make him an exceptional keynote speaker for audiences seeking understanding, context and strategic clarity.
