Aisling Bea’s Biography:
Aisling Bea is an Irish comedian, actress and writer known for her bright energy and distinctive comic voice. She is the creator, writer and star of Channel 4’s hit series This Way Up, and one of the few comedians to have won So You Think You’re Funny at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Aisling appears regularly on major television panel shows, fronts acclaimed radio projects and performs internationally. Her work blends sharp humour with emotional depth, shaped by her background as a performer and storyteller.
Aisling grew up in Kildare in a family steeped in creativity. She studied French and philosophy at Trinity College Dublin, where she performed with a student sketch group, before training at LAMDA. After graduating, she spent two years pursuing dramatic roles, yet found consistent opportunities in comedy. That shift proved defining. In 2012 she won So You Think You’re Funny, followed by a Best Newcomer nomination at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards for her show ‘C’est La Bea’. From there her visibility grew quickly. She appeared in early roles on Cardinal Burns and Dead Boss, became a regular panellist on shows such as QI, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Insert Name Here, and co created the radio series Micks and Legends, which secured a Chortle Award nomination. In 2014 she won the British Comedy Award for Best Female TV Comic.
Aisling expanded into acting and writing across television, film and radio. Her performances span everything from sitcoms such as Trollied and Finding Joy to dramas including The Fall and Hard Sun. Her stand up earned a Netflix special and her scripted work reached new heights with This Way Up, which won her the 2020 BAFTA Breakthrough Talent Award and later a 2022 BAFTA nomination for Female Comedy Performance. She starred in Living with Yourself, Quiz, the 2022 Doctor Who New Year’s special, and continues to appear across panel shows and comedy formats. In 2025 she featured on ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ where she explored her family history, adding a new layer to her public storytelling.
