Former NFL Europe Running Back, BAFA Hall of Famer, Player-Coach & Sports Entrepreneur
Stephen Hutchinson’s Biography:
Stephen Hutchinson is a British American football legend whose career has helped shape the sport across the UK and Europe. A former professional running back, Stephen enjoyed outstanding success at both domestic and international level, earning a place in the British American Football Association (BAFA) Hall of Fame in 2021 in recognition of his remarkable contribution to the game. Drawing on decades of experience competing, coaching and mentoring, he delivers engaging keynote speeches on high performance, leadership, resilience and teamwork, sharing practical lessons from elite sport that resonate with audiences across business, education and sport.
Stephen balanced his studies with competitive American football before committing to the sport full-time in the early 1990s. He began his career with the London Gators before joining the London Rockets and later the London Olympians, where he became one of Britain’s most accomplished players. During his time with the Olympians, he helped secure the 1994 Eurobowl Championship, earning Game MVP honours, before adding the 1999 EuroCup Championship and Team MVP award. His success led to opportunities with the London Monarchs in the World League of American Football, later known as NFL Europe, before continuing his career with the Hamburg Blue Devils in Germany and the Scottish Claymores.
Following his playing career, Stephen remained deeply involved in developing the sport. He returned as player-coach for the London Blitz in 2007 and 2008, helping the club claim another BritBowl Championship, before serving as Running Backs Coach and Assistant Offensive Coordinator for the London Olympians between 2017 and 2019. In 2014, he co-founded Rosterbase.com, an online sports community designed to connect players, coaches and fans through social networking and live discussion.
Alongside his work within American football, Stephen is committed to supporting the sport’s continued growth and inspiring future generations. As co-host of the ‘Ballaz In Da Middle’ podcast, he champions British American football while mentoring emerging athletes and sharing insights from his career. His engaging storytelling, practical leadership lessons and first-hand experience of performing under pressure make him an inspiring speaker for organisations seeking to build resilient, high-performing teams.
