His work on the programme made him a household name, and he even had the honour of presenting Queen Elizabeth II with a gold Blue Peter badge before leaving the show in 2005.

Following his departure from Blue Peter, Simon moved into sports broadcasting, joining Sky Sports News as a presenter. He quickly established himself as a trusted sports broadcaster, covering football, cricket and major international sporting events. Over time, he became the lead presenter for Sky Sports’ Football League coverage and later hosted live Premier League broadcasts. He has also presented coverage of events such as the Ryder Cup and the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Beyond broadcasting, Simon has become an important advocate for open conversations about grief and mental health following the loss of his wife to leukaemia in 2017. He serves as President of Blood Cancer UK and has written bestselling books, including ‘Love, Interrupted: Navigating Grief One Day at a Time’ and ‘Love, Interrupted: Navigating Grief, Finding Hope’. Through his writing, speaking engagements and his Love Interrupted podcast, Simon continues to help others navigate loss, resilience and personal recovery.
